# How do withdrawals from Hyperliquid work?

Stage 1 · Survey the ground (know the market you trade) · Updated 2026-10-26

A withdrawal moves USDC out of Hyperliquid to a wallet address you choose. You sign it with your main wallet, and Hyperliquid’s validators send it through the bridge. Hyperliquid quotes a $1 fee at the time of writing and about five minutes to finalise. Send is different: it moves funds to another account on Hyperliquid, not off it.

## In short

- A **withdrawal** moves USDC off Hyperliquid to a wallet address. **Send** moves funds to another account that stays on Hyperliquid.
- Hyperliquid quotes a **$1 fee** per withdrawal at the time of writing, and about **five minutes** to finalise.
- A withdrawal is signed by your **main wallet**. An API wallet, the kind an app trades through, cannot sign one.
- Every withdrawal and send is listed under **Portfolio › Deposits & Withdrawals** on Hyperliquid, with its action and its status.
- The first transfer into a brand-new account carries a one-time **activation fee** of 1 USDC, or 1 of another quote token such as USDT.

## Withdraw or Send

A **withdrawal** takes USDC off Hyperliquid. You sign the request, Hyperliquid’s validators sign it in turn, and it is sent to the bridge contract, which releases the USDC to the address you named.

A **Send** never leaves Hyperliquid: it moves funds to another account on the Hyperliquid blockchain. If that account is one of your own wallets, connecting that wallet to Hyperliquid shows the funds. Funds sent to an exchange’s deposit address wait until that exchange supports Hyperliquid, which is why Hyperliquid’s own interface warns against it.

## What it costs and how long it takes

Hyperliquid quotes a flat $1 fee per withdrawal at the time of writing, and about five minutes for a withdrawal to finalise. A flat fee weighs most on small amounts: the same $1 is a tenth of a percent of $1,000 and a tenth of $10.

The Withdrawal window shows its own estimate of the time. When the network is busy a withdrawal can take longer than that, but it is still processed.

## Who can sign a withdrawal

Only the main wallet can sign a withdrawal. An API wallet, the separate key an app or a bot trades through, can place and cancel orders but cannot withdraw, and cannot send funds to another address.

That is what makes it reasonable to let software trade for you: the key it holds cannot move your money off the account. [What an agent wallet is](https://buildtrade.app/guides/what-is-an-agent-wallet/) covers what such a key can and cannot sign.

## When a withdrawal seems late

On Hyperliquid, Portfolio › Deposits & Withdrawals lists each transfer. The Action column says whether it was a **Send**, such as Send Spot or Send USDC (Perps Wallet), or a **Withdrawal**. A Send stayed on Hyperliquid, so it will not appear in an outside wallet.

For a withdrawal, the Status column says what to do. **Pending**: wait for the estimate the Withdrawal window gave. **Completed**: the explorer link beside the time shows where it went. **Failed**: Hyperliquid points to Unit, the independent team that handles bitcoin, ether and solana deposits and withdrawals, and to its Telegram group.

## A withdrawal that keeps coming back

Hyperliquid notes that most Telegram trading bots are set to deposit any balance they see automatically. A withdrawal to a wallet such a bot controls arrives and is promptly deposited again.

Two ways out, both from Hyperliquid’s own help: send the USDC to another address you own on Hyperliquid and withdraw from there, or ask the bot’s support to stop the automatic deposit.

## On Hyperliquid

A brand-new account carries a one-time activation fee: the first transfer that sends funds to an address never used on Hyperliquid costs 1 quote token, such as 1 USDC or 1 USDT, whatever asset is being sent.

In BuildTrade™, withdrawals are made on Hyperliquid itself, with your main wallet. The API wallet the app trades through cannot sign one, so nothing the app signs can move money off your account.

## Four withdrawals, one flat fee

_Example numbers._

Four USDC withdrawals, each paying the $1 fee Hyperliquid quotes at the time of writing.

- Fee per withdrawal: $1
- Minutes to finalise, about: 5
- Signatures, from the main wallet: 1
- Withdrawals an API wallet can sign: 0

| Withdrawal | Fee | Fee share |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| $10 | $1 | 10% |
| $50 | $1 | 2% |
| $100 | $1 | 1% |
| $1,000 | $1 | 0.1% |

Ten withdrawals of $10 pay $10 in fees between them; one withdrawal of $100 pays $1.

## Mistakes that cost traders money

- **Using Send to reach an exchange.** Send stays on Hyperliquid. Funds sent to an exchange’s deposit address wait until that exchange supports Hyperliquid.
- **Withdrawing small amounts often.** A flat $1 fee is 10% of a $10 withdrawal. Fewer, larger withdrawals pay it fewer times.
- **Expecting an app to withdraw for you.** An app trades through an API wallet, which cannot sign a withdrawal. Only your main wallet can.
- **Withdrawing to a wallet that deposits on its own.** Many Telegram trading bots deposit any balance they see, so the withdrawal comes straight back.
- **Reading Pending as lost.** A pending withdrawal on a busy network is slower, not lost. The Withdrawal window gives its estimate.

## Try it in BuildTrade™

Before moving a large amount, read the destination address in Hyperliquid’s Withdrawal window back against your wallet, then follow a small withdrawal under Portfolio › Deposits & Withdrawals until it reads Completed.
